Logbook Writing

Write beautiful logs and reflect on the highlights of your underwater adventure. Tag your critters, include your top shots 📸, add some notes, and share with your fellow divers.

The Logbook is the Core of the Viz App

Divers, snorkellers, freedivers, scuba divers, and other ocean adventurers write logs in the Viz App. Together, they form the global logbook. It's a feed of what people are seeing underwater and what conditions they are experiencing. These logs are also aggregated into the live views for each dive site & region.

Curious what people are wiriting? Keep reading to see all the details that can be included in the logbook!

Dive Site & Region

There is only ONE required field when writing a log in the Viz App. The dive site location must be picked from an established list in the app. Using a standardised set of dive sites ensures that everyone's logs can be sorted & aggregated later (instead of having 20 different spellings of the same location). If your favourite dive site isn't in the list, simply request it in the app itself! New dive sites are reviewed and added every week.

All dive sites are organised by continent and region. If you enable location services in the app, you can also sort by nearby distance.

Ocean Conditions

Next up we have the most important field when deciding if a dive will be worth it:

  • Water Visibility
  • Water Temperature
  • Surge
  • Particulate

Also you can choose from an extremely simple three point scale to rate your dive - "Not Worth It", "Worth It", and "Get Wet Now"

Underwater Photography

Include your favourite photos from the water in your log. Alternatively, include a photo from the surface to easily convey how the conditions looks from up top. This can be handy for certain dive sites with tricky entrances in some conditions.

You'll be amazed at how fast the photos upload! The Viz App is natively developed to take advantage of the unique performance methodologies on iOS and Android respectively.

Tag Your Critters

Tag any critters you spotted in the water. Include as many as you would like, or simply say you saw the "usuals".

Free-Form Notes

An open ended section in the logbook lets you write anything else on your mind. This is a great place to add specific information about your dive site that other locals might understand.

Dive Log

If you were scuba diving, there is an additional set of details you can add. You can punch in your dive number, air start & end, depths, weights, and more. All fields are pre-filled with typical values in both types of units (such as starting on 200 bar or 2000 PSI). As usual, everything is optional, only log as much as you want!
